Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane works in mysterious ways. Interestingly, I still believe in most of those ways. I’m an A’s fan, what can I say? I always believe they can make a comeback no matter how dire it looks. I guess the exception would be last season.
Last season he traded for big names going “all in,” if you will, and when all was said and done the A’s barely even made the playoffs and then lost a tense extra inning one game playoff to the American League Champion Kansas City Royals. Beane deviated from his norm in 2014 and his team ended up in an even worse position than losing in the ALDS.
While the A’s have not won a World Series since 1989, Beane has led the team to the postseason eight times in 15 seasons this century. Clearly he has been doing something right, even with the A’s small budget … his actions last season, however, make predicting his actions at this season’s trade deadline completely unpredictable.
